Our founder, Varand Gourjian, represents an array of clients including Fortune 500 companies, federal court receivers, bankruptcy trustees, as well as large institutional lenders and individual unsecured creditors.

Mr. Gourjian is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California. He is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Financial Lawyers Conference, the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum, the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorney Association, and the Armenian Bar Association. His practice primarily consists of business, real estate, and bankruptcy clients.

As a top business attorney, Mr. Gourjian serves as outside general counsel to numerous industry leaders with revenues exceeding hundreds of millions of dollars. He advises on all aspects of daily operations and strategic decision-making. Mr. Gourjian also represents developers, investors, and real estate professionals throughout all stages of real estate transactions as a part of the firm’s real estate practice.

Finally, with extensive bankruptcy and reorganization practice, Mr. Gourjian represents debtors, creditors, trustees and court appointed receivers throughout complex insolvency proceedings.

A recognized leader in each area of practice, Mr. Gourjian has regularly been named a “Super Lawyer” by Southern California Super Lawyers and Los Angeles Magazine since 2001. “Rising stars” are selected from nominations submitted by current Super Lawyers and represent the top 2.5% of up-and-coming attorneys in the state. Mr. Gourjian also regularly lectures throughout Southern California on the effects of bankruptcy on real estate markets and transactions.

Prior to founding Gourjian Law Group, Mr. Gourjian was an attorney with the law firms of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis and Sulmeyer Kupetz Baumann & Rothman. He earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, and his B.A. from UCLA, where he graduated cum laude, with departmental honors in Philosophy. While at UCLA School of Law, he clerked for the Honorable Kathleen Thompson (USBC, Central District of California) and was an editor for the Journal of International Law and Foreign Affairs.
